The message I’m hearing the past few days is “Be your own person; stop looking at what others are doing; it’s only holding you back.”
Interesting – and yet, so very true.
I like to follow what my friends and family are doing; however, when I see the accomplishments, the actions taken, I also see those I did not achieve. Interesting again.
What is actually happening is that my internal voice – or Ego – is rising up. It’s saying, “You are not doing what they are – why not? You should be!”
Ouch! And then the despair and the “not good enough” complex set in.
But because of the tools I’ve learned over the past years, of which I now teach my transitioners and dreamers, I can quickly and easily move past those feelings – for that is what they are – just feelings.
I answer the voice, “I am where I need to be. I don’t have to or should be anywhere else but where I am right now, right here. I am good. I am great. I am fine."
And then I go to work on the inner core, to find out why the voice came up in the first place. I’ve also learned that if I’m are not creating, if I’m not working my purpose, or in it, then I’m not happy or content.
Recently, Deepak Chopra was interviewed by Oprah Winfrey in his native land of India. Something Deepak said was so profound relating to tomorrow. Remember the adage, “Tomorrow never comes?” He explained this so eloquently and effortlessly, that it made perfect sense. I’ll paraphrase: if we constantly plan for the future and not be in the present, we will never be in the present when the future finally arrives – because we won’t know what is to be present, to be in the now, today.
I learn every day. I am learning how to be more present around my fellow humans; to listen more intently; to hear what they require; and to be present for them no matter if they are standing next to me or in a virtual chat room miles across the oceans.
What can you do to be more present? What is the smallest of next steps you can take toward achieving your dreams? What will you say to yourself and to your Ego to convince both you are good enough?
Dream On! PeggyLee
“If you want to reach a state of bliss, then go beyond your ego and the internal dialogue. Make a decision to relinquish the need to control, the need to be approved, and the need to judge. Those are the three things the ego is doing all the time. It's very important to be aware of them every time they come up.” ~Deepak Chopra Want To Reprint this article? I discovered something yesterday…
I constantly look inside myself to see what’s making me tick… what’s going on deep inside my core.
While talking with one of my coach/business friends, I saw a pattern … a flight response. I was leaving relationships – business ones – at the first sign of trouble –so I wouldn’t get hurt. The year of 2011 was one full of relationship hurt and pain; I chose to end one business relationship, and was on the receiving end of being left behind in a personal friendship.
I’m running away before I get hurt again. Or is it something more?
After all, it could be that I’m evolving in my business sense and find personal relationships are being squelched because of the incompatibility now happening, going our separate ways due to growth on all sides in all things. Right?
I am in a constant change, transitioning daily to find my place in this world; somewhere that I can be me and great and wonderful.
Do you notice changes in your relationships? Are they subtle or glaring? How are you handling them? I’d love to hear your answers to these questions; feel free to comment below.

I’m listening to Debbie Ford through The Shift Network’s Inspiring Women Summit; she’s talking about her next book on courage. Ms. Ford speaks of tapping into your Divine Self and how once you do, your fears subside. Her feelings on this subject mirror my own. My Personal Secrets of Self-Transformation are aligned with her observations of healing your heart; of overcoming self-sabotage. If you are living a life that is not your own, if you are working at a job you hate or fear is in jeopardy, please l isten to this 35-minute recording. You will learn how to move efficiently, effortlessly, and easily through any life-changing event – and the smaller events, too; you will also hear a few secrets to a richness beyond imagination. One of my favorite exercises I guide my transitioners through consists of identifying their fears and to begin a conversation with them. Now, as silly as that may sound to you, or even scary for you, this practice actually strengthens your core, your Inner Self. After you listen to the recording, come back here and leave a comment. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Dream On! PeggyLee "Faith is found within, not from others. Friday. Friday the thirteenth no less. The end of the week. Yet the beginning of tomorrow and your future.
What’s in store for your tomorrow? Will you let the fear of the thirteenth stop you? What scares you the most of moving forward?
Amazingly enough, what stops us is the fear of the unknown. But if we moved toward that unknown – and get past it, we just might be pleasantly surprised and rewarded at the outcome.
I’m working at making my posts “evergreen,” however, this past week I’ve had the pleasure and honor to speak to, and with, many people via the world wide web. You can imagine the hugely unknown factor involved. But as nervous as I was in my preparation, I am personally richly rewarded for my effort. How? I have the sense of accomplishment; I have stepped out and away from my comfort zone, my safety net; and I have new listeners and readers in my fold.
How can you become richly rewarded? Where can you go to receive them? What might be the smallest of next steps you can take to gain those riches?
Really?
What are you waiting for? Just do it!
Dream On! PeggyLee
“For a person to build a rich and rewarding life for himself, there are certain qualities and bits of knowledge that he needs to acquire. There are also things, harmful attitudes, superstitions, and emotions that he needs to chip away. A person needs to chip away everything that doesn't look like the person he or she most wants to become.” ~Earl Nightingale

Do you hear the same message over and over again? This is the one that’s been creeping and crawling around in my head for weeks now. What does it mean? When I first heard someone say this a few years ago I thought they must be crazy! What?! Go toward my fears and face them head on? Why on earth would I do that? After being thrown into a life-transition event by the company I used to be employed with, I now understand why running to what frightens me the most can be life-changing. What scares you the most? What are you afraid to face? What if you moved toward the fear? I can tell you that when you have a face-to-face chat with the unknown, the scary, what you discover in that conversation may not be so frightful after all. You may even find opportunity in the wings that hold the dark. I can also tell you every day a new fear can enter; move toward it; have a conversation with it; ask Why are you here? What are you here to teach me? What do you want me to share? This is how you will gain freedom from your fears. Still scared? Want someone to help walk that path with you? Let’s talk. Dream On! You’ve heard me tell of it in the past few posts . Yesterday was the day for my segment of the Coffee With Soul teleseries. Thirty minutes never passed so quickly! The time was spent discussing my transition out of the corporate world into the life I now lead. How far I’ve come in such a relatively short amount of time… (You can listen in on how to get through and ultimately trust your transition here.)You’ve also heard me describe looking out my window. Well, today’s accompanying photo is the actual real deal. The weather has turned back to near normal chilly temperatures. As I write this, it’s 27°F which poses a risk for the fruit trees already in bloom. From what I understand, however, my crab apple trees won’t be affected. Frozen. Stopped in time. Poses a risk to be fruitful. Once again the words and phrases can relate to our lives. Being unable to move forward, to grow and be enriched is a terrible plight to bear. But what can you do? Do not allow the circumstances of a situation to impede your progress. However, by all means, take the time necessary to just BE; realize that this is a step, the very first step that must be taken. For if you don’t know where you are at the beginning of your journey, how can you map out a route to your destination? The Powerful Secrets of Self teleclass I’m holding in a few days emphasizes the self-care and learning of your Self to make the mapping easier. Please consider joining me. You will receive a gift of gratitude after completing your registration. But you will receive even more if you join me on the live call. In the words of Marilyn Monroe, “I don’t want to make money. I’m looking out that window again; you know, the one written about before. The leaves are still coming out on the trees, yet because the warmth experienced a couple weeks ago has left, the trees fell into dormancy. We can be like that; when the warmth escapes or eludes us in our personal or business life, we tend to withdraw or to stop growing. We may even retreat back into hibernation. And that’s an okay thing to do. You may not agree, however. But when our plans or life doesn’t go the way we expected, the time to reflect, to go dormant, is a necessity. That time gives us the chance to clear our minds, to step back, to contemplate what we must do differently that will add to our happiness or success. I also believe that time brings quiet so we can hear the voices of great and new ideas. Later this morning I will kick off and be interviewed on the Coffee with Soul series discussing how to get through life-changing (or any sized) events. Becoming dormant is part of the process. When do you retreat? When do you reappear? How much have you grown from the time you went dormant? Dream On! My husband and I were running errands. As we passed our local public library, he read the sign displaying upcoming events. “Poetry open mic.” I replied, “I’ve wanted to do that sometime,” thinking I had already missed my chance. The following day, I drove past the library again while on another errand. This time I noticed the date was three days away; I could still participate. After my errand was complete I stopped into the library to inquire more about the open mic readings. “Just show up with your poetry, sign in and when your name is called, get up and begin reading.” That’s all there was to it? Yep, that’s all there was to it. Later in the day I talked with a friend and she mentioned a poem she was working on. Kismet? Fate? Synchronicity at its best? I said, “Well, that’s another reason why I’m calling,” and explained the open mic, asking if she’d like to accompany me to the event. So the other night we both attended the open mic with approximately fourteen other people; eight of us read original poems, Robert Frost, and were even sung a Gaelic lullaby to. What an amazing hour! What made the evening even more special was that my friend read a poem she wrote for someone who recently helped her over a rough patch. She gave me a copy of that poem; on the bottom it read, “Written for my dear friend, Peggy Lee Hanson.” Oh my goodness! I’ve written many poems for others in my life, however, never received one. My heart felt as if it skipped a beat or two. I made a commitment to step out of my comfort zone, being in alignment with my theme of 2012 to become more visible by attending this poetry event. I had no idea in my wildest imagination the reward it held for me in doing so. I am a coach, mentor, author, and speaker. It’s about stepping up to the plate. It’s about holding the bat just right in your hands. It’s about having the right stance, the right balance. And it’s about keeping your eye on the ball. I loved playing softball as a kid and young adult. Ours was the place that had a yard big enough for a field almost regulation-sized. Whether it was big family get-togethers or just a friendly neighborhood game, hours went by, often playing until dusk. What if you played your life as a game of ball? You get fit with exercising daily. You practice running the bases throughout the day. You step up to the plate to face whatever pitch is thrown at you. You then take a swing. Sometimes you miss the ball; sometimes you hit it out of the park. And other times you simply strike out. But you don’t let that stop you. You keep coming back to play because you love the game. This week signals the beginning of baseball’s regular season. My team is the Minnesota Twins. I’ve watched games on TV and have seen them play in person, almost catching one of their foul balls – and nearly breaking the three middle fingers of my left hand as well! Also, this week signals the beginning of a new business adventure for me as I prepare for a hectic, yet welcomed, schedule of being interviewed on two telesummits and hosting my own. The first one is Coffee with Soul, where throughout the month of April, seven presenters discuss how to shine your own light, how to move through life-changes, living with chronic illnesses, how breathing can relax you, how to perform passionately and purposefully, and how to build a business on a shoestring budget. So, I’m finishing up my spring training, running my bases daily, keeping my eyes on the ball, and practicing my swing so that I’m ready when I step up to the plate. I love this game! How do you prepare for your game day? Dream On! PeggyLee “There are no secrets to success. I thought I recently lost my first means of personal support; however, when I quickly scan my life in reverse, I realized that losses of that type had happened several times before; I just hadn’t noticed it as much. It seems my awareness heightens as I get older. Hmmm. Is the same true for you, too? As I thought about it, the first time I lost a support system was when I graduated from high school; leaving behind the teachers and friends had meant I was left to a world of unknown. The next memory of support loss is when my dad died. I was only twenty-five with a one-year-old. He loved me and liked my husband, which was very important to me. Fast forward a few years when the sudden and unexpected death of my beloved mother-in-law from a brain aneurysm occurred. I stood up at her wake and announced – no wailed! – to the crowd, “I don’t know what I’m going to do without her!” Oh, I have several people who are there for me, including my husband and my kids. But when a few years ago being “thrown into the transition” after losing my corporate position of twenty-one years, an entire lifetime had passed into the dark. Which brings me to present day. One other support system thought to be lifelong has now ended due to the parting of two friends. When the sky cleared, I began to ask a few questions of myself. “Now what do I do? Who can I connect with? Where will my support come from?” And then I began to look deeper into the loss. Why was this person in my life? How did I “use” this person? What did this person bring to me? Oh my goodness! Oh my goodness! We all seek to be loved, accepted, and supported. But in examining my own wants and needs, I asked three more questions: “When will I give myself the support I need? When will I begin to praise and celebrate my successes? When will I be able to stand alone on my own recognizes?” The answer to those questions was the same: “Right now and right here.” Success is an inner game just as much as it is an outer one. Coaches and mentors can help us realize our strengths; they can also help us explore the deep and dark caverns so we can make our way safely to the top to see and feel the warmth of the sunshine on our cheeks. People come into our lives for a reason. And I believe they go away because we no longer need them. Some leave us and this earth far too earlier than what we’d like; however, the lessons they leave behind are many and immeasurable, and often come from within ourselves. What lessons have you learned from your support system? Is your system mostly made of internal or external resources? I'd love to hear about them. Dream On! PeggyLee p.s. Next Monday April 9, I will be kicking off and talking more about the transition piece during the Coffee with Soul teleseries, Please join me; I'd love it if you would. But if you are unable to listen in, yet want to speak with me directly, schedule a time; I'm here to support you in your dreams and endeavors. I can be changed by what happens to me. but I refuse to be reduced by it.”~Maya Angelou Want To Reprint this article?
