How do you view Mondays? With trepidation? With excitement? With hope and beginnings?
To be honest, I've never really asked myself this question. Although I treat each day as a new beginning, that, however, was not always the case. I dreaded going to work and the downward slide began Sunday evenings.
How did I turn this bad attitude around? Well, it wasn't overnight and it wasn't without a lot of inner reflection. I began reading self-help and improvement books such as "I'm OK, You're OK," the book that topped the New York Times Best Selling list in 1972. I also began to speak my mind, standing up for what I believed in -- myself.
A few years into my studies, I was elected union rep for my work classification, which led to VP of that same union. Another book I read to help me prepare for that position was" Negotiations for Dummies." My reputation then evolved as a person who was both tough and fair, telling "it" like "it" was. People actually wanted to listen to what I had to say; I almost felt like E.F. Hutton. Remember that commercial? "When E.F. Hutton talks, people listen?"
My place for representation has now reached global proportions and people around the world read my writings because of the integrity I represent. I am honored. I am humbled.
And I digress. One of the reasons why I'm here today, talking with you, is because I changed my Monday attitude ever so slightly those many years ago.
Is there a place in your life that could use a Monday attitude adjustment?
"Monday Monday, so good to me, Monday Monday, it was all I hoped it would be" ~John Phillips
