The Choice is Ours

10/29/2009

I had been reminded yesterday that we have choices. We have the choice how to act, how to respond, in what attitude we take on.

One day in the office when the air was a bit thick, I decided not to be part of the atmosphere, however, the question was how could I remain above the silt?
I created a very colorful sign and placed it where my eyes would naturally take me when looking up and away from my computer screen. It said:
"Today I can choose how to feel and today I choose to be happy!"

How will you choose to feel today?

Have a wonderful morning!

Inspiration and Doubt

I woke to thoughts of those who inspire me, many of them friends.

However, the rest of the morning has brought doubt and I cannot think of anything inspirational to write of my own.

So, I leave you with today's quote.

Have a great day!

Maintain Integrity

Integrity. What is it and how does one go about maintaining it?

I'm late today with my post. Yesterday I got into doing things other than dealing with the business of writing and creating, so I was a bit lacking in the integrity department of having my posts out first thing.

Even though I had my distraction I was not far off from being in integrity, from being true with myself. For I believe not only in making dreams come true but also believe we need our friends for support in realizing them.

As a garden needs to be tended by hoeing, raking, weeding, so do friendships. The ground is at times shaken up, then smoothed over, cleaning up those bothersome annoyances.

Living in integrity means I will do what I say I will. This must be one of my intentions upon waking. However, situations arise that need tending and by tending them we can remain in integrity while walking the path being true to our purpose, what we uphold as truth.

Have a great afternoon.

Set an Intention

"Set an intention." This phrase has been playing in my mind all weekend long. In the morning I wake up thinking about intention; at night I go to sleep thinking about intention. What the heck is my intention anyway?

I look back to my purpose for the answer: I want to sell individuals onto themselves, buy in to themselves, to know their dreams are worth their weight in gold, and that they can be achieved, and they can begin right now! But how will I go about accomplishing this intention today? What real steps will I take?

Have a marvelous Monday.

Dream Bigger Than You Are

I finally sat down to watch the LMN movie about the life of Georgia O’Keefe. She speaks of the “things” in her head, not knowing where they come from or how they get there; shapes and ideas that are so new yet so natural to her way of being and thinking, needing to get them out of her head and bring them into the world.

I know how she felt.

Earlier this week it had been suggested to me that in order for a dream to continue, to maintain the passion and the purpose of that dream, I must talk about it with people who are bigger than me. I still want to help people while they transition into their new life, but writing is my first love and I know in my heart more books will arise out of this dream, hence more dreams will appear; in all hopes to be known for my compassion and the size of my heart even through my imperfections.

Also earlier this week I had been on a call with my dream coach when another amazing dreamer got on the line. She had a question for our coach, however, was not allowed to ask it. The reason? That amazing dreamer from Louisiana had lost her grandson that morning to the H1N1 virus—he was almost three. Our coach along with the rest of us on the call prayed for her and with her. The loss of Silas was the only thing that mattered during this ever so somber moment.

Writing. Speaking. Dreams. I realized this morning that I am only one person away from meeting Jack Canfield, co-author of the Chicken Soup series. I am so excited to see where my dreams will lead—especially now that I know how to achieve them.

Have a wonderful Friday!

Waking up to Leadership

10/22/2009

I woke up thinking about leadership. It’s true! My mind rarely stops churning but I finally found an outlet venue for it all. Aren’t you lucky?

A few years ago while still in the corporate world, I wanted to rank up to a manager position. It wasn’t because of the pay or the prestige, but because of what a good manager does—motivates and supports.

I received the book, “Encouraging the Heart,” written by James M. Kouzes and Barry Posner, from a dear friend. I immediately devoured it! That book was ME! It was who I was, who I wanted to remain, and who I wanted to become! “Encouraging the Heart” is a wonderful resource and also a self-discovery workbook in which I thoroughly enjoyed while increasing my leadership skills. I then began reading more and more about this type of leadership, especially since experiencing it firsthand with my last corporate manager made me appreciate that style all the more.

Another book on my recommended list is “Resonant Leadership,” written by Richard E. Boyatzis and Annie McKee. This book is for those who are already in a leadership role as well as for those of us just beginning. “Resonant Leadership” discusses how to relieve burnout and never get it back again. The authors present a mindful approach of working to understand and improve the situations of others; to visualize a positive and realistic dream; and to move from problems to solutions.

Leading from my heart is what I intend to do as Coach.

Have a blessed day!

Tuesday Already?

10/21/2009

And here we are! It's Tuesday--where did Monday go? Oh WAIT! It' is WEDNESDAY! Oh my gosh!

I spent the weekend working on a quote book for coaches and doing a sprint such as that is quite invigorating! But alas, come Monday, with the book written but not formatted, exhaustion reigned over my body.

However, being tired does not stop the brain from churning! Ideas of writings to come, seminars to create, and the list goes on! I wake up inspired each day--maybe because I go to bed that way.

I begin to build this business to help others cope, mainly with job loss, but with any loss, really--the emotions and the stages of grief similar, if not the same.

So, here I am getting to know you as you get to know me. It is my hope you receive comfort in the thought you are not alone in how you feel this very day and are inspired to keep moving forward no matter how small the step.

To be inspired is to live inspired. Huh. To live inspired is to be inspired. Seems to work either way it's said, doesn't it?

Go forth and be inspired!

First Post!

My First Day

Good morning everyone!

Thanks for joining me on the first day of my blog! I am really excited about this part of the business because I get to speak with you every day! (Sorry for all the exclamation points, but I am really excited!)

I enjoy writing and talking on my favorite subject – ME! J But I also enjoy writing and talking about my passions (friends, family, pets) or a newsworthy item. But since it is my first day blogging on this site I’ll introduce myself.

I was born Peggy Lee Stern in Red Wing, Minnesota on July 27, 1957 at 3:02 a.m. My parents are Walter and Bernice and I have two older brothers and two older sisters—and that makes me the Baby. My family ran a small dairy farm that ended up being a three-generation life, beginning with my Grandpa Stern in the late 1930’s to early 1940’s, sadly ending during the recession of the 1990’s with my brother at the helm.

I have been married to my husband, Mark Hanson, for thirty years and have three children and a son-in-law: Katrina (Mike), Kyle, and Aaron. The boys still live at home but Katie has been living the past ten years in Pennsylvania; she attended what began as Allentown College, now DeSales University, from whence she received her Bachelor’s of Science degree. Aaron just finished the same degree at the University of Wisconsin—River Falls, in which the campus is almost out our front door.  Kyle attended the same university for nearly three years, but has not yet received a degree. And I can thankfully say, all my kids have jobs and are working to support themselves.

Also thankfully, Mark has a job configuring databases to work with patient flow programs used in hospitals and clinics throughout the country.

Oh, and I must also mention another very vital part of the family, our dog, Thor. He has been with us for fourteen years and gives us joy each day. And he is my dog; I can’t even go to the bathroom any more without him trying to open the door to make sure I’m really in there! I guarantee you will hear more stories about Thor.

And then there’s me. Last March my 21-year career with Northwest Airlines came to an end as my position, along with many others, was eliminated. There were so many emotions related to this news that it had been the biggest and longest roller coaster ride ever.

But because my wonderful manager (she and two others left the same day as me) had prepared us well in advance that this might be coming, it wasn’t a total disaster—I had ample time to think about what I would do next if my position was discontinued. Oh, do not get me wrong—it was a very dark and gray day indeed. However, it was one spent with utter joy and the very real sense of accomplishment as we celebrated our manager’s iconic twenty-five years with Northwest Airlines and wished her well in her retirement.

Moving forward with my own “retirement” I was fortunate enough to have some time to reflect on what I really wanted to accomplish with the rest of my life and it all boiled down to serving others, especially individuals who were going through the same thing I was—am.

I want to do more than just help people with the emotional side of losing a job. I want to inspire them to explore paths never travelled by developing wanderlust; I want to encourage them to plan their trip down that new path by creating excitement anew; and most of all, I want to give my full support during the entire journey by instilling confidence.

All this is why I wrote the first book in My Life’s Adventure series, “fiftysomething, The Unknown, Dreams, and Paths”; why I created the website you’re reading this blog on, and why I decided to become a Certified Dream Coach in February—to help others succeed in what their heart desires—and begin “My Dream Architect” business (website in development), with the tag line, “let me help build your dream.”

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your day. What is your dream?
