What questions did you ask yourself today?

_I seem to be on a roll with the blog post concerning the $64,000 question two days ago. I must confess, however, the to-do list got waylayed until today.

You see, I was a bit under the weather yesterday and am not quite sure what caused my demise. I asked myself a few serious questions that were, perhaps, valued more than $64,000; time will tell. Question 1) Are you really not feeling well? Question 2) Just how afraid are you in stepping out of your comfort zone? and Question 3) If you take the day as is and accept that you're feeling crappy, will you get up tomorrow and be in integrity with yourself and do exactly what you said you would do the day before?

OK; that last question was all the kick in the pants I needed. The previous two certainly were in the mix to consider; however, I've asked, and answered, them many times before.

"Yes, I really am not feeling well," and "You bet I'm scared, but I must step into the world where I want to be and play in."

The response to the third question has most always been, "Let me feel what I am feeling and work through any issues I could possibly have; then in the morning, I will be able to start the day anew with the freshest sense of intention and integrity to manifest my dreams."

So, on this third day of the $64,000 question, I am happy to report that my to-do list is complete. (You can read about the list here.) Here is an update: Mailed my sister the book; visited the employment office, except no one was there, along with a big sign that said "No Soliciting;" the church, however, there was someone there who took my information (a copy of my book and the proposed workshop outline), placing it in the parish priest's office.

It's a start and why I woke up this morning writing on my Facebook wall, "I'm so excited I can hardly contain myself."  And the best thing? I still feel that way tonight.

How do you get through a day of the blahs or just plain not feeling up to par? What do you do? I'd love to hear from you.

Have a wonderful afternoon and Dream On!

Uncle Joe had the right idea.

_In a recent post I referenced an old TV show, "The $64,000 Question." This morning, as I lay in bed at my first waking moments another old television series came to mind, "Petticoat Junction."

This show surrounded the small town of Hooterville and the happenings of The Shady Rest Hotel, operated by Kate Bradley, who had three daughters to support. Oh yes, and who could forget Uncle Joe Carson, "who was movin' kinda slow," the brain behind every great idea.

Actually, it was Uncle Joe who came to mind this morning. If you are unfamiliar with him, Uncle Joe did a lot of thinking on the front porch -- with his eyes closed. Back then it was a great piece of comedy, however, knowing what I know now, the concept was brilliant.

When the mind gets quiet, it rids itself of all the noise and clamor, all of the unwanted and useless thoughts. But what also happens room is made for new thoughts and fresh ideas to come in. Uncle Joe was actually meditating! Now, if you've seen the show (you can find clips on YouTube if you haven't), you know that Uncle Joe came up with some pretty hair-brained schemes. Nonetheless, however, the ideas always seemed to give way to credence.

As I write this post, it is the week prior to the new year. In my online travels I've read many items on the social mediums where the author is relaying guilt about not doing anything for their business. (I've also had recent conversations with colleagues concerning this, as well.)

The revelation of my morning quiet gave way to answers to many questions I myself had. For instance, what I needed for promoting my transition course to the employment office and my church later today, and what I was going to say when walking in those two doors.

The last few days have been very productive for me, unlike the last few weeks when I felt tired and stressed and everything in between, especially for not having the enthusiasm wrapped around the business as I should have.

Two things about the above paragraph I tell those who follow or hire me: 1) Remove the word "should" from your vocabulary; it only holds you back, keeping you from taking steps forward; and 2) Know that wherever you are, no matter how you are feeling, you are OK. Give yourself permission to be in that place where you currently are. You will receive no greater gift. Trust me on this one.

The following is an exercise for you.

When your day begins to get a bit wonky and you feel out of sorts, take a few moments for yourself. Sit in your favorite chair or lie down. Close your eyes. Take three deep and cleansing breaths, more if you need to. Let your mind empty. Watch as those thoughts leave the space. Stay in the emptiness as long as you can and then relax. Welcome any new thoughts and ideas. Feel your body go limp, the stress has left. You are now able to open your eyes, get up and move on with your next steps, no matter what they look like.

Let me know how the above exercise worked for you or if you've done this relaxation technique before, share your results. I'd love to hear about your experience.

Dream On!

A $64,000 question.

_When was the last time you had a good talk with someone? I mean, a really deep thinking soul searching conversation? Was it with a good friend? God? Spirit? Source? Parent? Spouse?

I've found on my journey that most people I meet up with talk about the material part of their life or business much more openly and readily than the emotional piece of it.

Why is that, do you suppose?

Well, for me, it's generally because I'm afraid to go deep within myself -- I may not like what I find there or, perhaps, my inner self will make me do something I don't want -- or unprepared -- to do.

After a recent conversation with a colleague, I fell silent when asked the question, "Why aren't you getting in front of your audience?" That was the coach coming out and I didn't like to be cornered one bit. But it was a question that had been gnawing away in the back of my mind for a few weeks.

My colleague said, "You're not answering the question. When will you get out there in front of your audience?"

I responded, "If I say the answer, it obligates me to carry out the actions." (This is what I get learning about intention and being in integrity -- with myself!!)

No better time than the present to confront my fear and answer that $64,000 question. (You old timers will know what I mean by that.)

The first "hit" that came up was I have a problem with my image; someone in the past year or so commented on how I needed an updated look, and that short comment made a lasting impression. The counter-attack, of course, is I look just fine. In fact, I am drop-dead-gorgeous when all gussied up to the nines. Plus, when in front of a crowd my face lights up with smiles all around.

Check that one off the list.

Next "hit" is I've never formally presented my program before. The counter-attack on this self-imposed limitation is it's poppycock! Of course I've formally giving my presentation, the first being in front of an audience of over 125 attendees! And I've talked about it ever since.

So, just with those two thoughts derailed, I pulled out a piece of paper and wrote the next day's to-do list:
Go to:
Post Office (to mail a package to my sister), church, and then the unemployment office to begin sharing what I know on how to get through job loss and share that process.

Opportunities bound and doors open. I have been taught and teach that you don't have to go through life alone -- I'm there right alongside you. I also have others willing to be by my side; they are my Dream Team. The more open and willing we are to take risks, and the bigger the risk, the bigger the reward that is received.

Look within to find the answers to your most burning questions. Is it scary? You bet! But if you want to get ahead in this world, if you have a dream or two to accomplish, if you want a better life for you and your family, get to the root of the problem and then do what you have to do in order not to be afraid to go there again.

Get a good and trusted friend, coach, mentor, anyone who can help you feel safe in reaching deeply within the vast knowledge within you. It will be well worth the trip.

Honesty is the best policy -- especially when it's with yourself.

Dream On!

Today in history....

Did you know that this is a historic day? It's the very last Tuesday of 2011!

Did you also know that it's a special day for you, too? Instead of it being a "last" day for something, today can also be a first in a personal historic sense of the word. (Now there's a synchronistic and magical occurrence: I typed "world" in place of "word." Read the sentence again with "world" at the end; how does it affect you?)

If you haven't yet heard, the new year is on its way. Many will speak of what's to be done on those days to come that you didn't accomplish in the last three hundred sixty-five.

And yet every day is remarkable because you are here, alive in this world, dreaming dreams that no one else has or is able to manifest as you can. You are unique.

What can you do today, this very day, right now after you finish reading this announcement that will bring more meaning, a deeper sense of fulfillment, recognition, hope, and abundance to this historic time? You don't have to wait for -- or dread -- the new year to begin anew. Take the pressure off now and make history today!

My hope is that your sacred time of days past were filled with love and warm memories. My hope for the future is that all of your dreams will come true.

Have a great day and Dream On!

Just when you think it's safe....

_Have you ever wondered why someone came into your life? How about a situation or predicament?

A good friend of mine explored that conundrum with me a few years ago. We became fast friends, being open and transparent with one another, in which immediately put trust at the forefront of our relationship. During this time of exploration we concluded that we needed each other in a capacity unbeknownst to either of us at the time.

After being informed that my corporate position would be eliminated I explored the same conundrum mentioned above. Why was this situation coming into my life? Then, too, I put trust at the forefront of the situation, becoming open and transparent as to what the world of possibilities laid ahead.

Did this trust come forward willingly and unabashedly? No.

The trust took its time while it grew into love and appreciation of the new relationship in each of the situations.

Now, what happens when those relationships and situations change or come to an end?

The answer, of course, is to start all over again placing trust at the forefront.

You are transitioning, changing each and every day – with relationships and situations, and even within yourself.  The best part is that you don’t have to go through it alone.

Dream On!

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

_ If you follow me on Facebook, you may have seen an entry of “Too many directions to go in….”  That comes not from overwhelm, but a bit more like underwhelm. I mean that a blasé feeling has set in.

I have health insurance to shop for. I have articles to write. I have a course in development. I have to decide what to make for supper this evening. I have to plan the menu for the night before Christmas Eve when we’ll be celebrating with our kids; and then there’s the menu for Christmas Day with my siblings and mother. I have to spot-clean the house. I have to work on monetizing my passion. But most importantly, I have to breathe!!

STOP!

How often have you told yourself that? To just stop, take a break, don’t fret about what needs to be done, or what you think needs to be done, and just feel what you’re feeling and – now, this is the kicker – accept it? Just be. Just be still. Just be quiet. Just breathe in and out. …. in and out…..

Stopping during any point of your day to concentrate on your breathing helps to reconfigure your center and focus. I did just that before I began writing this post – and there you have it – I’m almost done writing the article!

I also have renewed direction on which path to take when I’m done writing here. I’m excited for what I’m about to take on. It’s something new and risky, but it’s where I need to go to grow.

How about you? Do you know in which direction to go? What path will you take that will move you forward?

Dream On!

PeggyLee

Christmas, complaints, and compassion.

_How often have you met someone who complains and nearly constantly?  The other day I was with such a person who couldn’t even see the sun’s rays coming through the clouds in the sky! “Well, I don’t see the sun,” she said.

Earlier in the day she complained about how she could barely read through a Christmas letter received from one of her cousins. “Oh, so and so went here and here on this trip; so and so is graduating with honors…..”

What is so wrong about someone else being happy, grateful, and thankful for the events in their life enough to share?

I responded, “Would you rather get a letter detailing the bad and depressing events?”

“I guess not,” she replied.

Many suffer from the medical condition of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).  I am not a medical expert, but suspect that this person may be a SAD candidate.

After a few more minutes on the topic, I gave the woman this suggestion: “Why don’t you take all your accomplishments of this year – the role you played in the local community theater among them – and share them next Christmas in a letter of your own? That way those activities of your cousin might not irritate you so much next year.”

“Well, I suppose I could do that.”

This time of the year can be difficult for many – I used to be one of them. Oh, I still have my moments, but when discovering years ago that I am in control of how I choose to feel, I am back to loving the yuletide joys.  It’s a much happier time when you find something to be positive about. Also, when you find that happier place you are prone to bringing more happiness into your life, much like I spoke of in recent posts about feeling and being in gratitude.

What can you do to be happy right now? How do you choose to be? Where can you start?

Dream On!

New day, new hope, and a new poem just for you.

_T’was the week before Christmas
and all through the house
not a creature was idle,
not even the louse.

The stockings were washed
and waiting to be paired
In hopes that soon
the task might be shared.

The presents all wrapped
and under the tree
bring visions of sounds
of laughter and glee.

I in my flannels
And hubby in sweats
Settle into bed
As the sun sets in the west.

_ Each year I write a holiday poem based on a Christmas song or Clement Moore’s poem. It’s a fun way to exercise the brain cells. Plus, it’s comfort food for me while I face challenges and adversity, creating a much-needed release.

Another change is coming in the first weeks of January for me. I can choose now, however, how to accept it. Much like three years ago when learning I was to be ousted from of my corporate job, I choose to be proactive and positive. But I also know that I’ll be full of emotions, fears, and questions that no one else can deal with except me, yet knowing I don’t have to go down this path alone.

Luckily, I’ve traveled down this road many times before and have developed my own signature system to get through and well beyond the emotions, fears, and questions. ( Read My Story or go to Thrown Into Transition dot com to learn more.) This process helps retain my sanity – well, what’s left of it, anyway.

Today I will be joining in a bit of holiday fun with my Toastmasters group; we are gathering at another’s home for food, song, and fellowship.  Although I enjoy the regular meetings, I look forward to not having that regimen today.

My hope for today is that you find food to feed your mind, song to warm your heart, and fellowship to cheer your soul.

Dream On!

Take a trip down Gratitude Lane.

12/16/2011

Picture
_For more than a year now, I’ve been involved with a wonderful venture called, The Gratitude Book Project®. It was the brainchild of Donna Kozik, creator of “Write a Book in a Weekend.” Her story is truly a rags-to-riches fete, and gratitude played a huge part in her success today.

I agree. Gratitude is a strong attitude and principle that I believe contains powers yet unleashed. How often can you find an opportunity to give thanks for throughout your day? Can you be appreciative of the bad stuff along with the good that comes along? Do you show gratitude for waking up in the morning or for living through the day past?

Thanksgiving comes more than once a year; it’s as often as you call it to mind.

My husband and I are blessed with the ability to travel.  In November he finished up an 18-month contract that kept him away from our home in Wisconsin. We celebrated those last few days of his employment in Illinois by staying in a hotel, and then drove over 600 miles to visit his brother and wife in Oklahoma. We were home for 36 hours before we hopped on a plane to spend the next 6 days (over the Thanksgiving holiday) at our daughter and son-in-law’s just outside Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Wait – I’m not finished yet!

And then we flew down to Orlando for a few fun-filled days that was truly to be the homecoming celebration. During that time in Florida we took an afternoon drive up to Gainesville to visit one of my aunt and uncle’s.

Now, I’m not saying this to show how rich we are to take this much time off and go traipsing around the country, because the truth of the matter is that we struggle from paycheck to paycheck like most folks. But I am telling this story to show how the attitude of gratitude played a huge role in allowing us to have this dream trip and on a limited budget. Even my aunt said it was like a dream when we were there.

It is my belief when your inner compass is set to your true North, your passion, or to what makes you happy, you allow more gratitude, appreciation, and love into your life. Whether you offer up prayers, meditate, or say daily affirmations, you open up Heaven and the Universe to you, your Self.

The sun is shining as I re-read what I wrote above; it is a new day!

Affirmations is certainly another post for another day, however, I’ll share with you the one I’ve been saying whenever I think of it: I have more than enough money to pay my bills and to do the things I love – and want -- to do. Those simple words have made it possible to keep the gratitude at the forefront of my day and be not only appreciative to the dollars in my (our) pocket, but for everything else in my life. I’ve been sharing this affirmation statement with everyone, mainly because it’s working and bringing me peace of mind.

Can you come up with your own affirmation of gratitude and appreciation? Would you be willing to share it? Hit the comment link if you do.

Have a wonderfully blessed day.

Dream On!

PeggyLee

Waking up with great-i-tude.

12/15/2011

I must admit that not all my days are rosy and pink; some are just plain rough and tough. However, I’ve learned through my past years of training and deep inner reflection that before drifting off to sleep is to ask for a solution to whatever is weighing on my mind.

Setting the intention of waking to renewed spirit, a question answered, or a problem solved is what helps the mind quiet so you can peaceably sleep, feeling refreshed in the morning. There has been many a sunrise that I’ve witnessed where less than the desired amount of shut-eye was reached. However, upon those waking moments, my mind raced with new ideas, too many to keep me in bed.

A few experts call these “aha moments.” I call them the answers that lay within us all, and easily accessible when our mind is quiet, as when we are sleeping. Those who meditate also easily reach this quieted state. I’ve used that method as well, yet feel sometimes I don’t have the extra minutes in the day to do so, but that’s a different post.

Recently I worked rather hard on a project. By the end of the day, I was exhausted. My emotions were running all over the place and decided the next day was to be one spent doing whatever I wanted, not feeling pressured with work, and taking some much needed down time.

And then I had a night as outlined above of a quieted mind. I woke with renewed and refreshed spirit and ideas. I received wonderful news about the work I accomplished the day before. My fingers couldn’t stop typing the words that were coming from my brain. I was replenished. I woke with great-i-tude. Good things are happening still.

Do you know how to quiet your mind? How do you arrive at the answers you seek? What self-imposed limits do you reach and say, “Enough is enough,” and take time for yourself?

Dream On!

PeggyLee
