Celebrating life amidst a sea of tragedy

In launching my ebook on acceptance earlier this week, there are no quick solutions in finding resolution or peace in this travesty or ones like it.

“Who can explain it, who can tell you why….”

Our community of 13,000 is reeling with the news of a father killing his three young daughters. Yesterday he was charged with three counts of intentional homicide.

How can you celebrate life after something like this?

This weekend is the annual event of River Falls Days. If the weather holds out I will be walking in a parade later today with other family members celebrating a cousin’s milestone of being a 30-year 2-time survivor of breast cancer.  How can you not participate in such joy?

My hope for the family of the three young girls is they find solace and peace through the support of this community that is holding them as close to their hearts as possible.

No one can imagine or fathom the kick-in-the-gut pain the mother of these girls must be feeling. No one can imagine or fathom a parent committing such a horrific act.

Three little angels arrived in Heaven a few days ago; they are now there to help their mother in ways beyond imagination.

God bless the little children.

One can only hope with the advent of insurance for all- and no previous conditions precluding one obtaining same- that we will have our mental health professionals accessed more often- and earlier to diagnose, treat, and, therefore, preclude such tragedies.
My heart felt feelings to the family and, especially, the mom- as well as to your relative who has managed to best cancer.

Beautifully said PeggyLee. A parent never expects to outlive a child so I can't imagine how devastated this mother must be to have lost three. My heartfelt thoughts go out to her. ~Debra

I can't imagine the pain that poor mother is going through. How devastating. I hope that this family finds strength and peace through one another. No one should ever have to go through something this senseless.

And I am very pleased to read about your cousin's amazing will to live. Beating cancer not once, but twice, is definitely something to celebrate!

You captured the yin/yang of life ~ the light and dark jutting up against each other ~ in your beautiful tribute to the life energy of your cousin and the energy of loss occurring for the family of the three children. Roy makes a great point. Our communities have a long way to go to take the shame and judgment and the fear of asking for help out of issues surrounding psychological issues and challenges. Situations like this can become a blame-fest. This doesn't mean people shouldn't be held accountable for their actions but hopefully the focus will be on what can be learned and how can the community move forward to prevent this from happening in the future.

This is terrible, PeggyLee; somehow the parade will provide support for your home community while you try to make sense of senseless tragedy.

Normally, I like to answer each response individually, however, the words would be the same. So....
Roy, Debra, Angie and Tambre,
I think of what's going on in my life right now, which is not even on the chart of what the family of those three little ones is going through. I hope and pray that because the father did not elect to kill himself that this will indeed help the medical community gain insight and knowledge to prevent this type of behavior from happening again. More importantly, the legal system needs to somehow step up to protect these innocents; oftentimes nothing is done when first called in to settle domestic situations; it seems more intent on protecting parental rights.
Now, as far as the celebration of this weekend, the city is coming together, selling bracelets and celebrating all life, and especially the lives these girls have touched.
I'm honored to play such a small part.
I live in a great and close-knit community, where even though we may not know each other personally, we are still family and care for each other.
Thank you for your thoughts, shares, and prayers for the family involved.

Andrea,
Yes, the 4-day celebration of our community has a much deeper meaning this year, for certain.
Thanks for stopping by...appreciate it.
