After our greetings to each other, I handed my host the gift. She laughed and said, "I have a book for you, too." I received, "Strengths Finder 2.0," written by Tom Rath.
What makes this particular book unique is that it includes a code to access an online assessment to find your top five strengths. What an amazing gift to receive! There are thirty-four strengths (areas) defined. A few of them are Achiever, Belief, Empathy, Maximizer, Significance, and Woo (winning others over).
The book defines what each strength sounds like, ideas for action, and lastly, how to deal with those who possess that type of strength. Interesting concept, I must say. Personally, I thrive on these types of personal assessments -- it's insight into me and how I operate both internally and externally.
My top strength is Connectedness; no surprise there. I believe we are all one being, what happens to one happens to the other; we are all part of a larger plan, and if we hurt our self, then we hurt others. There have been times in my life where I can recall situations that had this effect.
My fifth strength is Relator. I've said for years I'm all about relationships; now I know why. I thoroughly enjoy developing bonds with colleagues, and perhaps under the right conditions, with those I just met. What is surprising about this strength is the trust aspect of it.
"This person is loyal, places a high value on trust and will not betray yours." (pg. 148, Strengths Finder 2.0, by Tom Rath, Copyright (c) 2007 Gallup, Inc.
That describes me to a T. Maybe there are no surprises here.
If you could put names to your top strengths, what would they be?
“You really have to look inside yourself and find your own inner strength, and say, "I'm proud of what I am and who I am, and I'm just going to be myself."”
