How do you know?

The cool, nip air of autumn is present this morning as I rise from my warm, comfortable bed.  The sun is working its way through the clouds that overshadow the sky.

But the dim gray does not impede the promises of the day that lay ahead; in fact, its aura is heightened.

Thoughts, dreams, wants, and wishes swirl  around the mind; thoughts of relationships past; dreams of future hopes; wants of security, financial and personal; and wishes of peace, serenity, and calm.

Can you feel these pangs of sentiment, too?

I recently had the privilege of talking with a small group of men and women searching beyond the relationships of the past, be they personal or professional, who dream, want, and wish for life of security, wealth, and happiness.

A few in the group were looking for employment, but all were looking for something more rewarding. We talked about working in your passion; how a living can be made doing what you love to do.

One question raised in the aftermath of the session was, “How do you know what you love?”

I instantly felt a bit of sadness come over me. That question has been playing over and over in my mind ever since.

With hands over my heart, I asked myself, “How do I know what I love?” How did I decide or choose the path I’m currently on? Is this what I am meant to do?”

The sadness began to depart my body. My life’s purpose began to churn inside, rising up to meet the doubt and uncertainty. It’s because of questions such as this one that keeps me doing what I love to do.

My purpose in life is to wrap lost souls in the warmth of my sunshine, letting them know they are not alone while they walk their path. I am truly blessed to be in their presence. I’ve been sent to walk with them while on this Earth.

Or, wait… have they been sent to walk with me while on my journey?

I’m curious: How do you know what you love? How did you decide on the path you’ve taken? Or was it simply Divine Intervention?

Dream On!

It's easy! Every day I wake up excited to tackle the day's events. It's like daily puppy love. And, I refuse to grow out of it!

For me it wasn't so much figuring out what I loved but what I loved enough to go the distance with. I enjoy so many things how could I know what to pursue.
I think we all know the answer it's a matter of listening to our hearts whispers. When you don't drag yourself to work counting the minutes til the day is over, chances are you are passionate about what you are doing.
I'm blessed in that my work as a coach lifts me up, inspires me and moves me emotionally. Occasionaly I forget that it's my job. That's passion, that's purpose. Not everyone will find that in their vocation though.
It's just important to remember that you can grow and change too.
Nice post Peggy...very big question!

You're such a poet in your heart PeggyLee. I feel a little like Roy does these days, being excited to tackle what I have to do for the day. When I found myself without a job 3 years ago, I had decided to recreate myself, however it wasn't that easy. In the end, I realized that I loved the work I had been doing, I have a passion about helping at-risk teenagers have a chance at a good life. It was the details of my job and working in a stressful situation I didn't like. I am now using all my education, skills, and experience to provide opportunities for as many teenagers as possible by developing a program for the adults that work with them to train them to become entrepreneurs. I've never been happier.

Roy, it's easy for you and for me, but for those walking this path for the first time, not so much.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting and sharing. I so appreciate it and YOU!

Bonnie,
You hit the nail on the head with your points. What you'd be willing to go the distance with and being quiet and still enough to hear what's in your heart.
Getting to that point is where a good coach or mentor can help you reach, but it takes time and will and quiet.
Thanks for your deeply beautiful thoughts, my dear friend.

I really think there is some Divine Intervention when it comes to finding our passions and the things we love. I think we are all given talents and desires that will lead us to our employers and careers.
When we love our work, it no longer seems like work at all.

Janette,
Our path in life is totally through the Divine, I'm certain of it. Every day is our teacher; who we meet; the circumstances that surround it; and how we re/act.
I no longer work because I do what I love to do and can hardly wait to greet my day!
Thanks so much for your words of wisdom and stopping by.

The other day a client said to me to imagine a crystal cave inside my abdomen where I could go and when in that area my energy and purpose could radiate out and fill those around me. It is a powerful place that you come from and Peggy Lee I see you coming from that place every single day. Love sharing your journey of helping people fulfill their purpose and be all that they can be.

Roberta, Roberta...
How beautiful to be a crystal in a cave, emanating and illuminating light, knowledge, love, and purpose to those around you!
I'm happy that you too, are walking on this journey with me. My hands will lay on my heart as I continue to write and reach out to those while they seek answers.
Thank you my friend oceans away, yet feel so very nearby.

Oooh Peggy - Good question! Does life's activity call us any differently than do the people we love? For me, knowing I'm on the right path comes from within and without; I look forward to my daily activities on behalf of my profession; I'm curious to learn and offer more; I enjoy the people with whom I interact, both clients and colleagues; I feel pride as a client sees that different choices will lead to different results and then chooses instead of allowing her/himself to just fall into what's presented; I don't long for another profession or feel jealousy over a path not taken; I'm challenged to try a new tool or technique; I enjoy talking with colleagues about the development and spread of coaching and enjoy talking about business shifts and opportunities with clients; and I love the fact that by my own choices I work in the environment I've created to support me on the schedule I've set with the diversity I relish. And - most importantly, I so want my clients to be able to say the same!

Andrea,
This statement intrigued me: " I feel pride as a client sees that different choices will lead to different results and then chooses instead of allowing her/himself to just fall into what's presented..."
The reason for my fascination falls on the latter part of it. Do we allow ourselves to fall into what's presented or is the "fall" ordained by a higher Being or Source?
Someone wrote in a discussion on Facebook about when big change happens, it's to set us on the right path.
Both statements have set my thoughts in deep and contemplative motion.
More food for the soul is what's noshing about ;-)
Thank you so much for stopping by to comment. I so appreciate you, as i do everyone who visited.

Would a higher power reveal itself as such or, as a higher power that's endowed us with powerful brains and hearts, allow us each to believe our free will, preferences, values and needs guide us? How can anyone know for sure beyond a willingness to believe they're guided by Source or a refusal to believe and thus sure they've reached their fork by luck or personal choice? It's surely a question that all humans have considered!

So true, Andrea... and that's a space I've entered before... a place where I believe I am Source, yet showing and declaring my gratitude to God, the Universe, all the angels and saints, plus anyone else who's listening, guiding, and providing for me along my journey. Love the discussion, thank you!
