James Bond, Sister Mary Clarence, and Honey Boo-Boo: The gun, the nun, and a wee bit of fun!

Often I don’t read the headlines that comes up on my home page when first accessing an internet session; a few of them are just plain outrageous!

Craig Speaks Out on “Gay” Bond Chatter

There may be a lot of Bond Girls who will challenge that last headline for certain!

Yet it’s the headline itself that gets the attention. Who cares what the actual article has in it? You may not even read the article because all was said in the title.

How many times do you read the article only to find the headline was not necessarily ambiguous, but a bit multi-purposeful?

Now, I didn’t read any of the articles of the headlines mentioned above; frankly none of them interest me. However, I do expect my readers to open up the article from the great headline I dreamed up, while the smell of irony fills their senses as they take in the words grouped together in sentences, and then paragraphs.

Whenever I hear “headliner,” I think of Deloris Van Cartier; you may remember her as Sister Mary Clarence, aka Whoopi Goldberg in Sister Act. “I am not now, or have I ever been a showgirl. I am a headliner!”

One day when I’m up on a stage in a room packed in with wall-to-wall people, I too will declare, “I am a headliner!”

I can see it. I can feel it.

What do you visualize for yourself? What will be your headline?

I’d love to know.

To your success,
PeggyLee

Interesting bit of musings Peggy Lee. I get annoyed usually when I expect to find information that the headline has led me to believe is in the article. Sometimes though there are those headlines (like yours today) that just peak interest even though you're not sure what it is about exactly.
Am I a headliner? Of course. My life story is written by me and I'm the star of the story! lol

The article I posted with John C. Maxwell's name in the title got a lot of hits; it was a bit about him, but only at surface level.
And yes, Bonnie, you ARE a headliner!

A headline to match my interests :-) (I, too, have written often about this http://www.adjuvancy.com/wordpress/http:/www.adjuvancy.com/wordpress/read-damned-headline-truth/) as one example.
Now, I admit the only boo-boos I know where the ones that my kids got on their knees and the little tyke bear that appeared on Yogi the Bear.... And, headlines are a real issue. I literally boil at the choices made by these editors. I wonder if they ever read the article to which they are attributing this headline- or if facts were even an issue in their brains....
Regarding the headline of my life- I learned when I served as editor of newspapers and journals and "popular" publications, that I would never delegate the headline about my actions to another. Because like first impressions, you can't unring the bell! (Hmm. Maybe it's time to write my obituary, too...)

Interesting, Roy.
I'm such a positive spirit that negative headlines turn me off; yet it's a big draw. But that's how it is in life too. Why do we dwell on the negative, such as writing your own obit?? To be continued, I'm sure.

Ooh! I continue to ponder on my headline, which I interpret to encompass my values, passion, and direction. And I'm still confused about all three. =) Maybe my personal headline is constantly changing. =)
