Although neither my husband nor I were going anywhere (I was not feeling well that day), the hairs began to stand up on the back of my neck and I was beginning to show signs of agitation.
Now, for those of you who know me, this state rarely comes into becoming a reality!
The house across the street had just been sold and the realtor’s truck was parked on our side of the street, so assumed the van belonged to our new neighbors. When I asked the realtor—not very politely (remember I was not feeling well)—to ask his clients to move the van, he replied that no one was there in the house.
Well, who in the world would park the wrong way on the wrong side of the street and totally block an entire driveway?
Because our own home is up for sale, I thought maybe someone was in the backyard looking around; that happened once before. These days it seems people think homes are unoccupied just because of the “for sale” sign in the front yard.
So anyway, I go out to the back porch. No one is in the yard, but our next door neighbor is talking with a friend of his in his backyard.
Long story short (I know… too late for that, isn’t it?!), I went outside through the front garage door confronting the two gentlemen. Now, remember I really wasn’t feeling well at all, therefore, not my usual sweet, accommodating self, and totally and completely lost my composure. The neighbor’s friend apologized, citing he didn’t think anyone was home, and moved the van right away.
The nerve of some people, right??
The next day, a pickup truck was parked the correct way on our side of the street, yet the truck bed blocked a portion of our driveway.
What in the world was going on? Two vehicles in two days blocking our driveway! Why was this happening? What was I doing to manifest this? What message was I to hear from these actions?
It took a few days, but the answer did reveal itself. I don’t like being boxed in. I don’t like not having my freedom to escape when I want to. And yes, I am a bit claustrophobic.
This goes for the way I want to run my business, how I want to present my workshops and teleseminars, and how I want to write: I want to do it all in my own way.
OK. So I don’t want to be confined. Now, I have to work on not getting all bent out of shape when something such as the driveway situation shows itself to me. However, simply the awareness—or awakening—of the inner reason had been a very big first step in recognition of being inside the box, and my reaction to it.
What makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up? Can you take a deeper look as to the why? What is the true source of your agitation?
Would love to hear your thoughts on this.
To your success,
