Oh, how I hated the balance beam in high school

…. it was like walking the plank!
Life. Work. Balance.

A teeter-totter.

A child breaks a bone.

An elderly parent is taken to the hospital’s emergency room.

Those instances where the fulcrum is knocked off its footing, its center.

Mixing the out-of-the-ordinary personal challenges with the run-of-the-mill daily life certainly can have the ups and downs, spills and chills, and the sickening feeling as if riding on a rollercoaster.

How do you cope? How do you get through those times? How do you survive?

  1. Breathe. Inhale fresh air through your nose and deeply into your lungs; exhale through your mouth, blowing as long as you can, watching all the bad dissipate off into the distance.
  2. Be present. Remember that right now, right here you are okay; you are alive; your heart is beating.
  3. Believe. Have faith that all will work out; quickly cite beliefs you currently have, either with your current situation or what you have overall in life.

These three simple steps helped me recently while experiencing my own personal challenge with a family member. But these steps have also given me peace during other times as well, such as with my business and where it is headed.

The above process not only centers your being, it quiets the noise of what’s happening around you. Try it the next time when the din grows to unbearable levels. You may be amazed at how quickly the volume goes down.

I'd love to hear how it went for you.

To your success,
PeggyLee

Yes! This brought to mind another Albert Einstein quote, "The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them." Change your thinking and the situation changes in accordance.

I certainly agree, Debra. Without a friend's recent suggestion, I may not have been able to help someone else! You are one of those priceless friends, Debra... thanks so much for stopping by and support.

Great tips to help stop the noise and feeling of totally overwhelm when things aren't going so well. Thanks for sharing, PeggyLee - just what I needed, I'm breathing!

Thoughtful, well-written post, PeggyLee. Thanks for sharing! When I was a teen I taught myself to stay calm by breathing, holding my breath for a count of five, and then releasing for a count of five. I still use this today in times of stress, and it helps me get calm and present in one go.

Thank you Peggy Lee. Those are great tips to follow. They may seem so simple, yet are so very helpful. Even breathing - one might think breathing is easy, but you never know. We may forget to breathe or breathe too fast. Slow long breathing makes me feel so great!
