Have you ever thought about changing up the language—the words—you use to increase the chance of a desired outcome? “I’m going to win the lottery tonight” doesn’t count. I’m talking about your every day words that come out of your mouth. Imagine if not one single negative popped out of your head and into the spoken flow.
As an example, there are a couple things about the first sentence in this post I’m going to pick apart.
The first piece will be “the hardest”. If you constantly and consistently state math is hard, my boss is difficult, my life will never get better, math won’t ever be easy, your boss will remain unapproachable, and your life may never be one of ease.
I want you do something for me; well, actually, it’s for your benefit. For the next 48 hours remove all negative connotative words and language from your vocabulary. Do not think them. Do not utter them.
The second piece of the first sentence to pick apart is the 100%. This is what’s termed as an absolute; always and never are also absolutes. When these types of words are used there is no room to allow anything else to enter that might precipitate growth. Sometimes bad things happen: cancer strikes, there is a death in the family; finding the positive in situations such as these takes time but it can be done. This is where personal growth can occur and the reason to leave that .1 or .01 percent space open for expansion.
You may experience a shift long before the 48 hours is up, but notice how you’re feeling afterward; note how you’re reacting to your friends and loved ones and coworkers. Also note their reaction to you. Are there any changes? What are they?
Now, let’s rewrite the first sentence to give it the positive spin.
One of the easiest things to do is to be positive.
There. That’s all. No percentage tied to it, no committing to a number, no negativity.
Create your life surrounded by ease, beginning with your thoughts and verbiage. Remember you get to choose how you feel, how you react, how you begin your day and how you navigate throughout it.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and results.
