If you have been working in overdrive and feel it in your body, mind, or soul, than by all means take some downtime.
Yesterday I had an evening meeting that was an hour's drive from my home; not my optimal time to go that distance at night, but I was with other friends, which helped. But earlier in the day I was so tired and could hardly think straight, plus I was dealing with the sadness of my kids moving out, my husband heading back to his job 500 miles away, etc., etc., etc.
So, I finally gave in and gave myself permission to take a nap. I set the alarm to when I absolutely needed to get up, do the tasks I absolutely needed to complete, shower, and prepare for the meeting.
I dozed for 90 minutes and felt refreshed upon waking.
Now, I know you may not have the same schedule (or freedom) as me, however, there are little things you can do to make your day easier.
- Give yourself permission to take a break, even if it's for as little as five minutes or as long as an hour.
- Take an hour lunch break; corporate workers get that time, why not you?
- Reward yourself for a task or project accomplished with an afternoon off or a morning sleep-in.
So, what does your list look like? I'd love to hear it.
